Follow Me: How To Pray

Matthew 6:1-2 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.Your kingdom come.Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”  NKJV

What Is Prayer

  1. Prayer is the main way we grow in relationship with God the Father

2.    Prayer is how we partner with God’s will for our life

Why Should We Pray

  1.   Jesus prayed, and taught us to do the same.

Luke 5:16  But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.   NLT

2.     We experience God’s love & presence for us.

Philippians 4:6-7 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

NLT

3.     Prayer invites God’s power & transformation into our life

James 5:13-16 13 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.   NLT

4.     Answered prayers reinforces our faith in God

How Do We Pray

  1.   Choose a time and place to pray everyday

2.     Pray authentically and expectantly

Mark 11:22- 25 22 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. 24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. 25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”   NLT

3.     Pray for others.

1 Timothy 2:1-2  I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.

4.     Pray the Lord’s prayer until prayer is formed in you

Luke 11:1-2  One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”  2 He said to them, “When you pray, say…
