Pt. 3 - Dynamic Prayer

The Essentials Series

Pt. 3 - Dynamic Prayer

Mike Popenhagen

Prayer is simply talking with God.

The purpose of prayer

  • To grow in a relationship with God.
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:16-17 (NIV)
  • To receive guidance and direction from God.
Show me the right path, O Lord;  point out the road for me to follow.
5 Lead me by your truth and teach me. Psalms 25:4-5 (NIV)
  • To empower your faith.

But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit.  Jude 20 (Message)
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, s
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. - Matthew 6:5-15

How Do We Pray?

  • Get alone with God everyday
As often as possible Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer. Luke 5:16
Pray authentically
 Approach God with gratitude
Seek His will for all things
 Pray your concerns
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6
  •  Receive and extend forgiveness
  •  Pray with expectation
In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait expectantly.  Psalms 5:3
I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Psalms 17:6
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
