Nehemiah: The Rebuilder
The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah.
Now it happened in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Susa the citadel, that Hanani, one of my brothers, came with certain men from Judah. And I asked them concerning the Jews who escaped, who had survived the exile, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said to me, “The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and shame. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire.”As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven. And I said, “O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments…”
“I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him or knows him. You know him for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
2. The Holy Spirit came to comfort the afflicted but also afflict the comfortable
3. Sometimes the most merciful gift He gives is HOLY DISCONTENTMENT
What do we do with our discontentment?
1. He Listened
The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the LORD has made them both
2. He Wept
“When He saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.”
Mark 6: 36-37
3. He Prayed (Fasted and poured out his heart to the Lord)
“The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much”
4. He Went (Took Action and Leveraged Everything In his power)
