Conversations of The Cross: Father Forgive Them

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.  Luke 23:43
Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.  Luke 23:43
Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.  Luke 23:45
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?  Mark 15:34
“Woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.”  John 19:26-27
I am thirsty.  John 19:28
It is finished.  John 19:30

Luke 23:33-37
When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” 36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

2 Observations This Statement on the Cross Reveals:

1.   Jesus death’ on the cross satisfies God’s judgement on sin.

1 Peter 3:18
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

2.  God is willing to forgive the very worst about us.

Hebrews 9:14
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death.
