God Speaks - How God Speaks
Mike Popenhagen

John 10:27
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
Jeremiah 33:3
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
Hearing God's voice is the central way we maintain our freedom.
All Christians have the ability to hear God's voice.
We mature in learning to hear His voice.
Hebrews 5:12
"...you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God."
8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
God is not limited in the ways He can speak.
Hebrews 1:1-2
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways...
We must take time to be with God in order to hear Him.
God speaks in various ways:
- Scripture
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
- Peace
Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts...
- A sense, an impression or conviction
Acts 15:28
It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us...
- Through other people
1 Corinthians 2:4-5
And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5 I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
- Visually
Acts 10:9-11
Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and white the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.
- Still small voice
1 Kings 19:12
12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
- Unconventional ways
Job 33:14
For God does speak—now one way, now another—
though no one perceives it.
