The Vow - Purity

The Vow - Purity

Mike Popenhagen

Vow #1 - I promise God will be my 1st priority, my spouse will be my 2nd.
Vow #2 - I promise I will always pursue my 2.
Vow #3 - I promise our marriage will be about WE and not ME.
Vow #4 - I promise to CONFIDE in you not HIDE from you.
Genesis 2:24-25
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. 25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Genesis 3:7-10
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” 10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
  •  Secrecy is the enemy of intimacy.

How to Create an Atmosphere of Purity.

  1. We must remove ourself from any situation that stimulates our desire to sin.

    Psalms 101:2-3
    2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
        when will you come to me?
    I will conduct the affairs of my house
        with a blameless heart.
    3 I will not look with approval
        on anything that is vile.
    I hate what faithless people do;
        I will have no part in it.

    Ephesians 5:3
    3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

  2. We must learn to repent and forgive each other.

    Proverbs 28:13
    13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
        but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

    Colossians 3:13
    13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

  3. We should read God's word and do what it says.

    Psalms 119:9-11
    9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
        By living according to your word.
    10 I seek you with all my heart;
        do not let me stray from your commands.
    11 I have hidden your word in my heart
        that I might not sin against you.
